Only a Little Planet
JUBILATE! is a Hitchin based chamber choir with an established repertoire which ranges from classical cantatas, via folk music and part songs, to selections from Broadway and the silver screen. Many of their concerts have been given as fundraisers for churches and organisations in North Herts, and we are pleased to welcome them to Woodside on Wednesday 17th May as part of Hitchin Thespians’ fundraising activities.
The programme, “ONLY A LITTLE PLANET”, was born during lock-down in 2020/2021 when the choir’s musical director, John Edwards, was wondering what was happening to the world we live in and what sort of future we faced. To express his feelings, John penned three new pieces for the choir: “Think of a world without trees,” “Earth Speaks,” and a disturbing piece called “Stagnation” (to a text written by John’s grand-daughter, Sophie).
The rest of the programme is a compilation of words from various authors and a surprising range of music (from oratorio to show tunes) to focus on human relationships with the planet, it’s beauty and its problems.
